Well a new month has begun, and after such a successful, spontaneous September, October has a lot to live up to. That’s why I think the theme “Taking Charge” is a natural jumping off point to fully transition into fall. Taking charge means different things for different people, and for me this month I shall continue to take to charge in my career and personal relationships.
Since I am currently in rehearsal for Ivanov, playing at Columbia University at the end of the month, I want to take charge of my presence in the room. While I know I’ve got the chops, sometimes I find that my voice gets lost among the director’s vision, as well as, what the other actors are bringing to the table in terms of interpretation of characters, relationships, and play arcs (whoa “actor” talk, but I think you get the idea). Plus I’m really starting to think about what my expectations are for myself as the year starts to wind down, and it’s time to finally put my foot down and begin the search for my COMMERCIAL AGENT!!!! eeeeeee! Super excited, anxious, and prepared. I know that I can do it, but the timidity I have had to this point has not benefited me at all, and because of that it’s time to TAKE CHARGE!!
Not only am I going to take charge of acting pursuits, but continuing with the spontaneity I have infused into my life from last month, I’m going to submit a one-act I’ve written into an upcoming play festival. (fingers crossed) Whether it’s chosen or not, after participating in the Secret Theatre’s recent One-Act play festival I believe my piece could run with the best of them. So now I need to find out 🙂
Spontaneity, taking charge, and also embracing a self-awareness, taking time to notice where I am and how I treat myself, as well as, how I interact with others are the cornerstones for October. Deep, heavy, and insightful huh?
As the leaves turn from green, to gold, red, and orange, I also shall continue the transformation into mid? twenties Melissa, confident, healthy, adventurous, passionate and driven!
