Thursday Thoughts

Standard

jazz lilts out the window every day around this time.

as the notes make their escape out of the mystery saxophone player’s apartment into my ears

i can’t help but applaud their diligence and ponder about their age

a college student perfecting his homework? a seasoned professional going through the set list they’ll be playing at a smoky nightclub or bar in the Village?

Practice is something we are all taught at one point or another

but it is only truly harnessed by the impassioned and dedicated individuals who understand its power

Individuality is something we are all born with, something we all run away from eventually discover is the most vital attribute we have.

how hard it is to sometimes grasp that some carry that dedication for status, or things; items that are fleeting and, in the end, inconsequential

for these accolades and things can’t hold you when you cry

dance with you in your joy

or look you in the eye and utter “i’m proud of you”

#AboutLastNight

Standard

this is a relatively late post, but hey, better late than never! This weekend was a whirlwind of performances, travel, family time, productivity and friend demanded recovery time. From a fabulous performance at That Bachelorette Show to taking a 6am bus to DC to spend a quick day with my brother and his family to finally nailing down the first weekend of “principal photography” for Shampagne, it was a grand ole time.

Sunday afternoon I was #pooped! But I have recovered for the most part and have a few photos to share

Ciao 😊

Shampagne September

Standard

If you read my Monthly Motivations yesterday, you’re familiar with a term that will pop up again and again over the course of September: Shampagne. This month, Shampagne, will become the thing that I eat, sleep and breathe, I hope.

Guys, creating your own work is extremely difficult. I have been through a roller coaster of emotions and I haven’t finalized the script or shot one second on camera. Last week, I was calling everyone I considered to be a rock, sounding off my frustrations, stress, questions, and unresolved internal dilemmas preventing me from moving on to the next step. Luckily, everyone had a listening ear at the ready and some great advice to dish out and today I can tell you that I am back in the driver’s seat, eager to tackle the behemoth of challenges headed my way.

In addition to the show, I am coming into my own over at That Bachelorette Show at 42West! Last week my character almost made it to the final two, so that signals to me I have really started to come into my own as Mac Jenkins. If you’re in the city I strongly urge you to come to the show, it’s a great party with a live DJ, bar, and some eligible “bachelors” milling around the audience.

Back to school, means back to the classroom for me as well! Sure I’ve been teaching out on Rikers Island for the past few months, but I’m super excited to meet the next round of Adler Youth 2 students in the coming weeks and tackle Shakespeare once again!

Finally, September marks new chapters for some of my closest friends, weddings, birthdays, and milestones!

You know the name of the game:

Gonna keep it going as I take on all the month has to offer.

Fall Firsts!

Standard

If you look to your left, you’ll see there’s a new page in the menu bar: Fall Firsts. As I mentioned in my monthly theme post at the beginning of the month, I want to try and get the most out of my favorite season in New York before the snow and blistering, cold wind take up residence. This weekend is going to be a great one because I’ll be able to cross one of the items off of my list: the Dumbo Arts Festival!

The cherry on top of the weekend ahead is that it will be filled with amazing people! Not only is Cynthia in town (visiting from St. Thomas), but I’ll be celebrating my cousin Lauren’s 25th birthday in style AND, wait for it, spending time with Melissa and Ammon (for the first time all together in, I think, 8 years) here in New York. With these social appointments tacked on to rehearsals and a film short shoot, and my first two Shakespeare classes at Adler, this week is going to end on a very high note! Be sure to check the Fall Firsts page to see how I’m doing, but as I’m sure you know check the home page because posts will be a-coming.

Ciao 🙂
