We have hit the seventh month of the year everyone! Number 7! I don’t know about you but the first half of 2016 went by like a bullet train. I know the saying goes that the older you get the quicker time seems to rush by, but I’m not that old! LOL
May and June were a whirlwind of activity, dormancy and change.
The season finale of Shampagne was released.
I produced my first critically acclaimed off-off-off broadway play (Thanks NY Times)
I directed my first full length production (#teachingartist)
I did a few readings and an awesome show at ANT Fest
Celebrated my grandmother’s 90th
Went to the Jersey shore for the first time
Those are the highlights, couple of lowlights too, but no one’s life is all ups all the time, right?
New month needs a theme, motivation, quotes and all that jazz. More than that, I realized that by not blogging, I actually wasn’t tracking my feelings either. This space is where I actually get to take a minute, breathe, and tune in to what I want for myself. A place to be honest and right now? I need that.
Cool. July! Here’s to you! May you be hot, steamy, challenging and fun 🙂
This year, I have decided to continue on the road of “Consistent and Persistent” that I began building in 2015. The mantra really helped me to focus on what was important and to really make bold moves in my personal and professional life. Building momentum to this idea I will also strive to promote myself and my work this year (so don’t be surprised to see more of the #shamelessplug on my Instagram!)
As I stated in my last post, I will only be posting once a week this year. So be sure to stop by every Thursday to see what’s happening in Harlem, and as always my Instagram feed will have the most up-to-date news and stories from my day to day life so follow me: @rocksolidmel.
Below are some of the ideas, phrases and quotes I want to use this year to get me from month to month. I hope that they will inspire you too!
November is here! Teaching Shakespeare is in full effect, Shampagne production is going well, That Bachelorette Show has added me to the permanent cast, a wedding in Philadelphia and a lovely vacation in Greensboro for Thanksgiving is right around the corner!!! This month, the mantra of being consistent and persistent continues! Onwards my friends, 2016 will be here before we know it.
Better late than never! Who says you need to have your motivations at the top of the month? I sure don’t…this month. Listen, when times get busy it’s in the quiet moments when you have the opportunity to take stock of what’s been happening around you, and what you want to see for yourself in the weeks ahead.
As 2015, begins to wrap up, I have become cognizant of the little things that make my days go with ease, allowing me the freedom to create and appreciate the joy in my days. Hopefully, these little nuggets will push you to tackle that challenge staring you in the face.
August is almost a-go-go-GONE! Pumpkin spice coffee and pastries are popping up in Dunkin Donuts, Halloween decor are in drugstore aisles and the sun is starting to descend earlier and earlier. Hopefully this week’s will be the last heat wave of 2015, but I’m not holding my breath on that one. The breeze is refreshing and the kiddies will soon be back in school!!! (Hallelujah!) The last quarter of the year approaches and with it, I’ve found some great quotes to power me through Shampagne September, named for my web series and honors the weddings, bridal showers and other celebratory events around the corner. I hope they give you a bit of a push like they have me 🙂
July tends to be accompanied with a quiet, internal ticking clock. Tick. Tick. Tick. “Are you keeping your resolutions?” “Are you doing your best?” “How can I finish off the year strong?”
While these questions are a little annoying, it’s nice to have these “alarms” going off in the back of my mind. It reminds me to keep pushing, reach higher, and be happy with the progress made to this point.
Halfway there does not necessarily mean a bad thing, instead I see it as a touchstone for the year. A pause in the day-to-day pattern of life, where I can take a step outside of it and appreciate the view. Good friends, good times, and good career moves have occurred and there are even more on the horizon.
