MMIA: Melissa Missing in Action

Standard

Hello blog world!

Although I know no one has been on the site for two weeks, I wish to greet you all the same.

Let me start off by saying, I am NOT sorry for being MIA. I take great joy in being able to say that I just have not had the time to sit and post photos, memories, and poems because the whirlwind of web series production has completely enveloped all of my free time.

Not only have I been in Shampagne production world, but add on top of that, my Adler Youth Shakespeare class, That Bachelorette Show, a new class in partnership with Pathways to Graduation, Rising Circle events and duties, and the continued NYU day job shuffle, its been pretty quiet on the NYDreaming front.

That being said, I have now determined I must return to the blog-o-sphere with a flourish! However, I’m not really sure how to go about it LOL.

So, I suppose the solution would be to just dive back in. Sure it’s October 12th, but look up and you’ll find my monthly motivations, and a dance video will be hitting the site this Friday (if I have enough media space. grrrr) Anyway, I am back, even while I haven’t really gone anywhere.

For those who stumble upon the page today, thanks for stopping by. For my avid readers, who have been pondering my whereabouts, welcome back! Persistent and Consistent, that’s the mantra for the year, so back on the blogging horse I go!

Ciao 🙂

Messenger Mickens: A Photo Diary

Standard

A while ago, I completed my NYU messenger run, and what a gorgeous week it turned out to be. Sure there were some overcast days, but the days were warm (it’s all relative) and the sun made an appearance ever so often. I decided to do a “Day In the Life Of…” photo diary while on the job (shhh) so you could get a sense of what I experienced each day 🙂

Ciao 🙂

May Change Be With You?

Standard

I hate change! The cat is out of the bag. The only problem is that life cant really move forward without it. Sigh. I suppose the theme for the month of May is simply embracing the change that is about to come. Whether I like it or not. In the next two months, my New York family will experience tremendous loss. This may seem a little over the top and dramatic but hey I’m an actress so accept it and just read on! (Hahaha).

My rocks, Cynthia and Morgan, are about to embark on the next phase in their life’s story. Both I have lived with: in college (Morgan) and after (Cynthia) . Each are huge pieces in my own story, the memories we’ve shared, the conversations we’ve had, and the support we have offered to one another over the past seven years. Earlier this week, I found myself on NYU’s main campus and the question I couldn’t shake hit me: “Has it really been three years since Tisch Salute and Commencement at Yankee Stadium? Three years since my classmates and I no longer depended on the regimented schedules of class, studio time and essay deadlines to dictate how we should manage our time to make the exorbitant fees of NYU worth it?”
For many reading this post, I sense, you may feel the same. For others, it may cause you to think back to the time you stood in my shoes, perhaps with a small grin on your face thankful those days are past. Either way, with Morgan and Cynthia’s departures an era is coming to an end. While the friendships, I hope, will continue to grow and adapt to these new changes I must also change with it. Embracing the unknown to come with wonder and excitement not fear and trepidation for what lies on the path to come.
After all spring signals change, renewal, birth and beginnings. With that to consider,  I once again  find myself exactly where I am meant to be.  🙂

Around Town…

Standard

While some of these photos may have been posted I’ve decided to display them again, only this time I’ve learned how to display slideshows and galleries easily thanks to the FAQ section. (thanks wordpress, a little slow to this feature, oops) Don’t worry I’ll try not to abuse this too much, but you gotta admit it’s pretty snazzy!

Wandering Wednesdays

Today marks the beginning of my second week as a Messenger for NYU. While I have been working at the university since my student days, this is the first time where I actually had to get off of my derriere and get to find new pocket of campus as I deliver interoffice mail. As I have been telling several of my close friends and family recently, the ironic part about this job is that I remember towards the end of last year complaining that I wasn’t able to get around the city as much as I’d wished due to busy work and rehearsal schedules. Well! I now consider myself very fortunate that I get paid to walk around mid- and- downtown Manhattan, getting afforded the chance to see City Hall, the Brooklyn Bridge, the ever expanding Washington Square Campus, and Grand Central Terminal on a daily basis. Plus it doesn’t hurt that I get to walk about 10 miles a day, helping me kickstart my healthy exercise habits too 😉  Above is link of some of the great pictures I’ve gotten to take on my route. But if you want to see them, sans slideshow, check out my Instagram feed and look for a more detailed photo post once the job wraps up at the end of the month. Hope you enjoy them!!!

Ciao
