Jumpin’ July

Standard

We have hit the seventh month of the year everyone! Number 7! I don’t know about you but the first half of 2016 went by like a bullet train. I know the saying goes that the older you get the quicker time seems to rush by, but I’m not that old! LOL

May and June were a whirlwind of activity, dormancy and change.

  • The season finale of Shampagne was released.
  • I produced my first critically acclaimed off-off-off Β broadway play (Thanks NY Times)
  • I directed my first full length production (#teachingartist)
  • I did a few readings and an awesome show at ANT Fest
  • Celebrated my grandmother’s 90th
  • Went to the Jersey shore for the first time

Those are the highlights, couple of lowlights too, but no one’s life is all ups all the time, right?

Anyhoo,

July πŸ™‚

New month needs a theme, motivation, quotes and all that jazz. More than that, I realized that by not blogging, I actually wasn’t tracking my feelings either. This space is where I actually get to take a minute, breathe, and tune in to what I want for myself. A place to be honest and right now? I need that.

Cool. July! Here’s to you! May you be hot, steamy, challenging and fun πŸ™‚

Ciao

Hot and Steamy Like Mississippi

Standard

Greetings, from heat-wave plagued Harlem! Man, it’s been a little like home these past few days. Even on hot days like these New York still has plenty to offer in terms of free, air-conditioned fun!

Last week, I found myself at both the Metropolitan Museum of Art (amazing Sargent exhibit), and the Studio Museum of Harlem (where the artists in residence had new exhibits up), drinking in the art of classical and contemporary artists alike.

Wandering down Museum Mile and 125th street, I stumbled upon Albertine, a French/English bookstore, and a sidewalk reminder that gave me the push I needed to finish a passion project I have been working on for a few months now.

Maybe it’s because I’m a June baby, maybe it’s because I love summer and heat (to a certain extent) but summer 2015 is pulling out all the stops and I am blissfully chugging along.

#AboutLastNight

Standard

July 4th may have been two weeks ago, but you still want to see the pictures don’t ya? Well, here they are for #AboutLastNight! So fortunate to spend the holiday with new and old friends out in Long Island. The host, Brandon, was great and there was good food, good music, and of course fireworks! Enjoy.

Vacancy

Standard

I live here...

there is a place for you here

inside, you’ll find a hook for your coat

a spot for your shoes

and a chair to ease your weary feet.

there is a space for you here

inside of my heart

where the caverns and vessels have been cleared for your presence

to pump in and out of me

becoming a part of me

you are welcome here

you are wanted here

you are already here

will you find your place, your space, your nook in the crannies left waiting for you?

better yet, is there a space inside of you as cozy, as warm, as welcoming for me?

or is your door rusted shut, with the curtains drawn and the lights sitting dormant waiting for the true resident to fill this vacancy of yours?

Halfway There

Standard

July tends to be accompanied with a quiet, internal ticking clock. Tick. Tick. Tick. “Are you keeping your resolutions?” “Are you doing your best?” “How can I finish off the year strong?”

While these questions are a little annoying, it’s nice to have these “alarms” going off in the back of my mind. It reminds me to keep pushing, reach higher, and be happy with the progress made to this point.

Halfway there does not necessarily mean a bad thing, instead I see it as a touchstone for the year. A pause in the day-to-day pattern of life, where I can take a step outside of it and appreciate the view. Good friends, good times, and good careerΒ moves have occurred and there are even more on the horizon.

Motivation for the Month Ahead

Standard

Greetings from a voice not heard from!

I know it seems that once again, a month has gotten away from me and I’ve only been able to post “Wandering Wednesday” entries for July. But I must admit that this was a whirlwind of a month thanks to “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” (It was a great success and I was able to get my first mention in a review! Exciting times.) So, as I prepare for August it’s time to post a few motivating quotes and pictures to help me get excited for the month ahead. I hope these inspire you the way they have me, and I can’t wait to tell you if they are actualized.
