i know that yesterday i conveyed that my life is moving at a crazy clip, and i thought today i would break it down a bit for you for this Wordy Wednesday. being able to say at the top of 2015, i am effectively wearing about four hats at a time, is a pretty awesome accomplishment. not only am i approaching my acting career with renewed vigor and focus, but i’m back in the teaching seat with my students over at Stella Adler and will soon set foot back on Riker’s Island. working with the Rising Circle Theater Collective now, i am exposing myself to the ins-and-outs of the not-for-profit theatre world, (grant writing, social media push, building community) and lest we forget, my day job is leering its head as well. talk about a whole bunch of responsibility! i am just chomping at the bit to give my all, placing my hands in the fire as it were, and marching forward with gusto and joie de vivre.
it’s so great to stretch every muscle that makes me a unique individual. calling upon my love of culture, of diversity, Shakespeare, the written word, the power of theatre, and the vitality of life and the human experience has already begun to shape 2015 into something truly spectacular, and the month isn’t even over yet. what whirlwind! so much in store, tons of which i don’t even know exist yet.
How does the saying go? “Work hard, Play hard.” Let me tell you that those never rang more true than this past weekend haha. With each new performance the Ivanov cast found new rhythms and cadences for their characters and for the play itself, so of course at each night’s conclusion we felt we deserved a pat on the back for “A Job Well Done.” Celebrating Jason’s birthday on opening night at Mel’s Burger, grabbing lunch at Deluxe and dancing at my apartment on Saturday, and saying our goodbyes over drinks and Mexican food at Amigos. We soaked up as much time together that would be allowed between eating, sleeping and performing lol. Below are even MORE pics from what we did after the lights faded and the audience had gone home.
As part of my monthly theme of spontaneity I have taken on two roles in the production “Biting Tongues” playing this weekend in Queens! (Our play was able to advance to the semi-finals of The Secret Theatre’s One-Act Play Festival)
I’ve found a new outlet of volunteering and youth outreach by agreeing to participate in studio classes with the Stella Adler Youth Year 2 Outreach Program taught by friend and fellow Hangar Lab alum, Jason Gray.
So I gotta say that September has definitely allowed acting to land back in my lap and I couldn’t be more grateful or excited about it.
I also made my last trip of the summer to Greensboro, NC to meet the newest addition to my brother’s family, my nephew Jaxen.
Photos are coming of that trip, September goings on, and the long overdue post on my trip to Philadelphia. Whoo! Since starting this blog I have definitely been finding ways to keep myself busy (plus Netflixing OITB, Burn Notice, and White Collar) but all in all me being busy is a great thing for the blog. Because I get to go out into the world, learning new things and doing what I love I will have tons of things to share: thoughts, photos, poetry, criticisms and the like. Thanks for being patient with me and as always for more up to speed postings check out my Instagram: @dramagirl07.
